| Info: | Almost eight years after their last
album, "When the Street calls" , the acclaimed Swedish cold/dark wave
duo White Birches return with their highly anticipated third album
“A New Reign”. Known for their evocative songs and
uncompromising live performances, the duo continues to push the
boundaries of the genre, where alarming guitars and dissonant synths
meet haunting pop melodies. The years since their previous album have
been marked by personal losses, a pandemic, grief, and a fractured
world. But it has also been a time for reflection and songwriting,
resulting in A New Reign . A more personal album, yet with the same
striking intensity. "I wanted to challenge myself as both a singer and an artist. Writing about difficult themes means daring to rest in difficult places. But even though the album is dark, there is still room for some form of solace," says Jenny Gabrielsson Mare. White Birches' music has been compared to Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins and Sisters of Mercy mixing sweet piano and alarming guitars with dark wave synthesizers. Haunting pop melodies with dark lyrics. On “A New Reign” White Birches deepen their sound with heavy bass, dark beats, and a sonic landscape that dares to be both fragile and ferocious. "It has been a long journey since “When the Street calls”, but we have been working on new music the whole time. Now that we feel ready to release an album again, I want to believe that we have developed an even stronger expression. An identity that is unmistakably White Birches and that resonates and moves,” says Fredrik Jonasson. A Must for all fans of dark, gloomy dark wave / postpunk. |
